Today we reviewed Unit 8, as well as prepared for Student-Led Conferences, which will be held on Wednesday, April 26.
Today we discussed the impact of globalization on the U.S., including advances in communication and transportation, increased trade, outsourcing of jobs, international corporations, and the shift from the manufacturing to the service industry. Students compared and contrasted the views of Obama and Trump on globalization. Students now have all the notes they need to study for their Unit 8 test next Friday, April 28.
Today students watched a video summarizing the Cold War and answered questions that accompanied the video.
Today we discussed the end of the Cold War, including the revolutions in Eastern Europe, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the breakup of the Soviet Union. We also discussed issued faced by the U.S. after the Cold War, including the rise of China as an economic and military power.
Today we watched an episode of "The Wonder Years" in which students protested against the Vietnam War, and discussed its significance. The unit will continue after Spring Break, so students should be reading over their notes! Have a great break!
Today we discussed the Vietnam War, including the domino theory, the divide between Doves and Hawks in regards to the war, and the cease-fire that ended U.S. involvement in the war. All DBAs must be completed tomorrow.
Today we discussed more Cold War Conflicts, such as the Arms Race, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the Space Race. Document-Based Assessment on the Korean War is due Thursday for all students.
Today students began a Document-Based Assessment on textbook entries for the Korean War. The assignment must be finished before Thursday, as 3rd quarter grades will be due on that day.
Today students took a quiz on the Post-WWII era. We also discussed the Korean War, including the differences between North Korea and South Korea, involvement of the U.S. and China in the conflict, and the stalemate that continues today.
Today we discussed the U.S. policy of containment in regards to communism, including the Marshall Plan, the Truman Doctrine, and defense alliances (NATO vs. Warsaw Pact). Students also labeled maps of Europe and East Asia during the Cold War. Students now have all the materials needs to study for their quiz tomorrow.
