Hello! I hope everyone is doing well! Just wanted to give a little update now that we have officially entered March. On March 27th, students will have their Language Arts Benchmark 3 test. This will cover a number of topics that we have learned this quarter including: -figurative language -plot -character -setting -point of view -plot structure -theme -imagery there will be a study guide and students will be able to take their notebooks home to prepare as well. I will also be adding more links and activities to my website to help them study. In social studies, we are entering the era after the Revolutionary War --or the "New Nation." We will be doing lots of fun activities to learn about the birth of our nation, the presidents, and our government. As always, feel free to contact me at any time. Interims will be coming home soon! It is hard to believe that we are already half way through the third quarter!! Check back soon for updates! Thanks, Miss S schneikm@pwcs.edu

Hello! I hope everyone is doing well~ I was so happy to see everyone at the Student Led Conference! Just one question...where is the snow?! While we wait this is what we will be covering in Language Arts and Social Studies-- In Language Arts we are beginning our unit on Figurative Language, including (but not limited to) personification, simile, alliteration, metaphor, idiom, allusion, onomatopoeia, and poetry. We are also looking into identifying themes in poetry and literature. We are learning to identify and use imagery in writing. We have been working on writing prompts and utilizing warm up time to keep previously learned skills fresh in our minds. We will have a small test on Figurative Language on February 22nd. Our Benchmark later in the quarter will cover all of these concepts with the addition of plot, character, and setting. Of course, there will be study guides to help your child prepare for these exams. In Social Studies we have just wrapped up the American Revolution. We are now working our way into studying about the New Nation, Articles of Confederation, Constitution and government. Soon, we will have an interactive, creative project involving concepts from this unit. More details on that to follow. I will be sending home a sheet outlining this new project soon. Please feel free to check back as I will be adding some materials to help your child study, in addition to the study guides I will send home. Feel free to contact me at any time! schneikm@pwcs.edu Thanks, have a wonderful week! Miss Schneider

Hello! We will start off December with a test on Main idea and supporting details. Please look at the 'documents and files' section to find a powerpoint to help your child review for this test on Monday, December 5th. I will also be sending home a worksheet to review, in place of a full study guide. This month we will also be working on text structure and organization for non-fiction, as well as a compare and contrast essay writing piece. I hope everyone is doing well, and I look forward to working with your students this year! As always, feel free to email me if you need! schneikm@pwcs.edu --Miss Schneider

Welcome to 6th grade! I am so excited to teach on the Phoenix team! My name is Miss Schneider and I teach Language Arts and Social Studies. To start off we will be working with reading comprehension strategies...these include -context clues (to help figure out unknown words) -inference (making educated guesses in our reading) -predicting (thinking about what we are about to read) The students will have their first LA test tomorrow 9/29. It will be a multiple choice test covering these topics. Next we will be working on the QAR concept, Question Answer Response. This is where students learn different types of questions both that they ask, and will be asked to them about their reading. This helps them to really analyze the text and double check their comprehension as well as discuss their personal views and connections to the texts. I am excited to dive into these concepts and make stronger readers! In Social Studies, the students are working on their native American creative projects. They are to research a tribe and then write a one page report with their group. Then, they are to make a creative project (done during class) to illustrate what they have learned about their tribe. This project is beneficial because it incorporates research as well as a creative component where students can really show what they have learned. I also love group work because collaboration is such an important skill to have early on. Next we will jump into early colonization and move forward from there. I am so excited to be working with your child. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact me at any time. schneikm@pwcs.edu. have a wonderful day! -Miss Schneider
