Important FAQ's regarding the clinic...

1) Can the school give my child pain medication for their headache?

The school clinic does not have ANY bottles of medications to distribute to a student at a parents request.

2) Can my child have medication at school?

Yes. You may provide the school with an UNOPENED bottle of medication for the nurse/staff to administer to your student as needed. There is a quick form that needs to be completed and signed by the parent/guardian.

3) Can my child bring medication to school?

No!! DO NOT send any medication of any kind to school with your student. An adult, 18 years old or older, must transport all medication to and from school in accordance with the PWCS Code of Behavior.

4) Who needs to complete the medical paperwork for my child?

If it's a medical condition that requires prescription medication, the doctor and the parent/guardian both complete the paperwork.

If it's for over the counter medication, only the parent/guardian needs to complete the necessary paperwork.

Medication

If your child requires medication during school hours it is important that you complete the REQUIRED over-the-counter medication authorization form (Attachment 1 of Regulation 757-4). This regulation pertains to any substance considered medication, including pain medication, eye drops or oral numbing medication. New as of 2011-12, students can now self carry cough drops without checking into the clinic first.

Students found carrying unauthorized medications at school may be subject to disciplinary action in accordance with the PWCS Code of Behavior. This regulation is for the safety and wellness of ALL students at WMS. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call or email the school nurse.
